Outdoor Learning

At Welton St Mary’s C of E Primary Academy children have the opportunity to learn both within the classroom and outside.  The children are regularly taken outside to use our extensive outdoor area to develop their skills across the whole curriculum.  Both whole class lessons and smaller focussed groups are taught outside. Outdoor learning gives teachers the opportunity to replicate the learning that has been happening inside the classroom on a larger scale outside, encouraging children to engage in practical, hands on activities.  The children are encouraged to develop their creative, problem solving and teamwork skills when working outdoors.  Our children develop their science and enterprise skills when growing their own vegetables in our raised flower beds, use our sensory garden for quiet reflection and use the outdoor area to help develop their ideas before writing imaginative stories.
